WANITA Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has hinted that she is ready to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).

However, Shahrizat, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) Wanita chief, said the decision was up to the party leadership.

“Politicians must be prepared for everything… it is up to the chairman (of BN Najib Razak),” she told reporters after handing over contributions to the residents of Selangor King George V Silver Jubilee Elderly Home in Kuala Lumpur, today.

She was responding to the question whether she was game for a comeback in the coming general election.

On rumours that she would contest the Sungai Besar parliamentary constituency, Shahrizat said: “I am hearing various rumours. Thank you for saying I will be contesting here and there, in politics it is nice to know people want us. But it all depends on my boss (Najib).”

Shahrizat said BN Wanita had submitted the wing’s GE14 manifesto to the prime minister for consideration.

Among the items on the manifesto was the construction of integrated care centres in every constituency under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“This is because today most of the care centres for the elderly only focus on senior citizens but there is no interaction, making them lonely in their old age.

“This needs to be changed, where these care centres need to be integrated with children’s care centres and community activity centres so that there will be communication at various levels.”

Shahrizat handed over essential items and cash contribution in conjunction with  Chinese New Year to the 125 residents of the care centre.

BN Wanita also donated RM10,000 to the 73-year-old care centre. – Bernama, January 5, 2018.
