THE International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) welcomes the approval given to two new airlines to operate in the country.

Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said the move will help the aviation industry recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and promote healthy competition.

“Aviation is one of the industries affected by Covid-19. Not only local airlines, but global ones are also affected.

“But as most countries have opened their borders and increased tourism sector promotions, this can help the industry revitalise its activities.”

However, the flight booking rate is still low as many tourists are still cautious about travelling due to Omicron, he added.

“So, I feel that the aviation industry still needs time to return to normal.”

The two new airlines are SKS Airways Sdn Bhd and MYAirline Sdn Bhd.

SKS Airways, owned by Johor-based SKS Group and founded by businessman Alan Sim, will take to the skies from Subang to Pangkor Island starting tomorrow.

MYAirline, led by experienced directors – including Abd Hamid Mohd Ali from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and Azharuddin Abdul Rahman from Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia – has received permission to fly from January 1 to December 31. – Bernama, January 24, 2022.
