BRAZILIAN football legend Pelé is “doing well” in his fight against cancer, said his eldest daughter as reported by Xinhua.

The 81-year-old underwent surgery to remove a tumour from his colon in September, and doctors said he will require chemotherapy upon his release.

Brazilian media outlets reported that his condition deteriorated on Friday, after he was re-admitted to hospital during the week.

“My WhatsApp and DMs started buzzing again yesterday. It even caught me by surprise, and I know what is going on,” said Kely Nascimento in a social media post.

“My dad is doing well and nothing in his diagnosis has changed. He is going for check-ups at the hospital every month for the foreseeable future, so you can expect this kind of thing happening from time to time.

“Thank you all for your concern.”

Pelé has been discharged after two days of treatment for cancer, according to the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo on Thursday.

A hospital statement signed by three doctors said the former forward is in “clinically stable” condition.

Pelé earlier this month told his 8.1 million Instagram followers that he is feeling fine after enjoying a low-key festive season with his family.

“After a few days of rest, I am tying up my boots for a new year that is starting,” said the three-time World Cup winner.

“Let everyone know I am ready for the next game.” – Bernama, January 23, 2022.
