Dr Mahathir in stable condition at IJN cardiac care unit

DR Mahathir Mohamad is in stable condition after being admitted to the cardiac care unit of the National Heart Institute (IJN) today, said a source.

No official statement on the ex-prime minister’s condition is issued, but there is a group of journalists waiting outside the hospital.

The Langkawi MP, 96, was admitted for an elective medical procedure to IJN on January 7, and discharged on January 13.

He was admitted for a “full medical check-up and further observation” to the same hospital last month.

The veteran politician has a history of heart ailments, suffering his first heart attack at the age of 64 in 1989. He suffered two more heart attacks in 2006, and underwent a quadruple bypass.

He was treated for a chest infection in November 2013, and again admitted with a similar complaint in August 2016. – January 22, 2022.
