MANDATORY temperature checks at premises will soon be removed from the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP), Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

According to Khairy, people only need to scan the QR code using their MySejahtera to check-in.

“The ministry has agreed to remove temperature checks as part of SOP throughout the country.

“This proposal will be brought to the quartet ministers’ Covid-19 meeting and after amending the SOP, it will not be mandatory for premises to have temperature scanners,” Khairy said at a press conference in Parliament today.

Temperature checks became an integral part of the SOP from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, their usefulness has been questioned because many new cases are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, more so with widespread vaccination.

Khairy added that the ministry plans to eliminate the use of log books at premises, where people are required to write down personal details such as name and temperature reading. – January 20, 2022.
