THE Terengganu Health Department has blocked the Covid-19 vaccination status of 1,223 people who went to a private clinic in Marang, which is under investigation for issuing fake vaccination certificates.

State police chief Rohaimi Md Isa said this was after police identified the 1,223 names on MySejahtera among a list of 1,900 who had dealt with the clinic for vaccination matters.

The 1,223 had already received vaccination certificates on the MySejahtera application and police confirmed that they each paid the doctor for a fake certificate.

Rohaimi also said that many of the 1,900 names in the clinic’s registry are “anti-vaxxers”.

“From investigations so far, I can say that nearly everyone who dealt with the clinic did not accept the vaccine.

“Those on the list who did take the vaccine are about less than 10 persons,” Rohaimi told a press conference at the state police headquarters today.

The list of 1,900 names was confiscated from the clinic when police arrested its doctor on January 8.

Rohaimi had previously said that the suspect was believed to have begun his scam in September after his clinic was given permission to dispense Covid-19 vaccines.

Terengganu police also said the doctor had received payment of between RM400 and RM600 for each fake vaccination certificate without administering an actual injection.

Doctors who have permission from the Health Ministry to dispense the vaccine are also able to update a person’s vaccination details into the MySejahtera system.

The doctor was exposed by clients who paid him but whose vaccination status did not change in their MySejahtera applications.

Rohaimi today added that police were also informed of fake vaccination certificates from the clinic by employers who were suspicious of their workers.

Police have released the seven suspects arrested earlier, including the clinic’s doctor who was remanded three times.

Statements from 23 witnesses have also been recorded.

As for two of the clinic’s customers who wanted fake certificates but lodged police reports after they did not get them, Rohaimi said police have treated them as witnesses, and will not be taking action against them. – January 20, 2022.
