Malaysia logs 13 new Covid-19 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 13 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday, an increase of four cases compared to the nine fatalities registered the day before, the Health Ministry reported.

Of the 13 fatalities, three were dead-on-arrival (DOA) cases.

All deaths were backdated, the ministry’s GitHub raw data repository showed.

The deaths reported yesterday bring the national toll to 31,831, with 6,420 classified as DOA cases.

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported fatalities on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19.

On the breakdown of deaths by state, Penang, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur reported two fatalities each, while Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perlis and Selangor reported one each.

No coronavirus-linked deaths were reported in Pahang, Perak, Sarawak, Terengganu, Labuan and Putrajaya.

The three DOA cases were reported in Kelantan, Negri Sembilan and Sabah.

The domestic Covid-19 mortality rate was at 0.5%, while the national average for deaths by infection was five per one million people. – January 20, 2022.
