THE Health Ministry yesterday reported 837 hospitalisations linked to Covid-19.

The hospital utilisation rate stood at 65.8%, same as the previous day, with coronavirus cases accounting for 28.9% of the bed occupancy rate.

The number of hospital admissions indicates the severity of the virus. Hospital utilisation includes bed usage as well as the number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators. 

Klang Valley accounted for 282 admissions, with Selangor reporting 227, Kuala Lumpur (40) and Putrajaya (15).

Other states that reported new Covid admissions were Johor (164), Kedah (11), Kelantan (60), Malacca (16), Negri Sembilan (49), Pahang (27), Perak (44), Perlis (2), Penang (20), Sabah (96), Sarawak (55) and Terengganu (11).

Malaysia reported 3,074 new infections yesterday.

Selangor reported the highest number of cases at 837, followed by Johor (419) and Kuala Lumpur (276).

Other states that reported new cases were Kedah (209), Kelantan (195), Malacca (154), Negri Sembilan (111), Pahang (195), Perak (120), Perlis (3), Penang (200), Sabah (265), Sarawak (13), Terengganu (57), Labuan (15) and Putrajaya (5).

Malaysia has reported about 2.8 million infections since the onset of the pandemic. – January 16, 2022.
