7-day mandatory quarantine for Covid-19 positive, says Khairy

SEVEN days of mandatory quarantine will be imposed on those who test positive for Covid-19, irrespective of the variant, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

“It will be seven days for those who are vaccinated or with symptoms and 10 days for those who are not fully vaccinated,” he said in a statement today.

He added that those who are in close contact with Covid-19 patients would have to self-isolate for five days if they have received their booster shot.

“Close contacts who have not completed their vaccination will have to quarantine for seven days.”

He said the new isolation and quarantine procedures will take effect tomorrow also apply to individuals currently undergoing isolation and in quarantine.

Malaysia reported 3,246 new Covid-19 infections yesterday.

Selangor reported the highest number of cases at 1,006, followed by Johor (380) and Kuala Lumpur (280).

Other states that reported new cases were Kedah (178), Kelantan (270), Malacca (166), Negri Sembilan (157), Pahang (204), Perak (137), Perlis (15), Penang (198), Sabah (244), Sarawak (13), Terengganu (56) and Labuan (8) and Putrajaya (34).

The nationwide case tally since the onset of the epidemic has now surpassed 2.8 million. – January 15, 2022.
