THE government will exempt travellers previously infected with Covid-19 from mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Malaysia, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

According to Khairy, the exemption only applies if they were fully vaccinated and had been infected within 11 to 60 days of their arrival.

“These travellers must have printed or digital laboratory reports proving that they were infected with the virus within that period,” Khairy said in a statement today.

Khairy added that this exemption only applied to people meeting the criteria.

Visitors who have been infected but only partially vaccinated or yet to receive a single dose of Covid-19 vaccination would still have to go into quarantine for seven days at a designated centre and must take an RTK-Antigen test in the presence of medical practitioners upon arrival.

The new regulations will come to effect tomorrow.

Khairy said the new SOP was made based on scientific data and evidence, as well as experience from other countries in the management of travellers infected with coronavirus.

Khairy also said that travellers with a history of hospital admissions for Covid-19 will need to provide a “fit for travel” letter from the hospital.

Travellers treated for Covid-19 at home or in an isolation centre will have to take an RTK-Ag test administered by a healthcare worker two days before flying to Malaysia and must test negative.

Meanwhile, the standard quarantine procedure will remain the same for those with no history of infection or those who have been infected beyond the stipulated period.

The Health Ministry also advised visitors to download the MySejahtera application and fill a health declaration form, take health screenings and take an RTK-Ag test upon arrival. – January 12, 2022.
