INDIAN Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a prominent leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, has tested positive for the coronavirus and is in isolation.

“I have tested positive for Corona today with mild symptoms. I am under home quarantine. I request everyone who have recently come in my contact to isolate themselves and get tested,” Singh, aged 70, tweeted today.

Many politicians, ministers and celebrities in India have contracted Covid-19 in recent days as India witnesses a huge surge in infections.

They include Junior Health Minister Bharati Pravin Pawar, Junior Home Minister Nityanand Rai, Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey, and Delhi’s Chief <inister Arvind Kejriwal.

More than 400 Parliament workers were found positive before the budget session next month.

India’s latest daily reported cases were 179,723, the highest figure since May when the country was battling its second wave of the pandemic. – Bernama, January 10, 2022.
