BERSATU will not be affected by its members joining other parties, said the party information chief.

Wan Saiful Wan Jan was responding to reports that his party mates have joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

“Bersatu will not be affected by this new development,” he said in a statement today.

“Bersatu will move on with integrity, good governance, anti-corruption and abuse of power policies to benefit all, regardless of race or religion. It will also continue to grow with more and more members each month.”

Those who join other parties will also have their memberships automatically revoked, he added.

“Bersatu’s constitution is clear. Any member who joins another party will have their membership automatically revoked.”

Perak assemblymen A. Sivasubramaniam and Paul Yong have joined the recently launched PBM.

They joined Bersatu in March last year, after leaving DAP following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020.

Buntong assemblyman Sivasubramaniam is made PBM senior vice-president II, while Tronoh assemblyman Yong is made treasurer.

Julau MP Larry Sng was elected PBM president for the 2021-2024 term at the party extraordinary general meeting in Sibu, Sarawak.

Political observers said a lack of opportunity in the party may be the reason why members are opting to join PBM.

They said even though several members are close to party leaders Mohamed Azmin Ali and Zuraida Kamaruddin, they cannot see a future in the party.

Zuraida previously said she will consider any offer to join any party, but added that she has yet to receive any such offer.

The Bersatu supreme council member may soon be trading Bersatu for PBM, a multiracial party that fights for a “moderate Malaysia”. – January 10, 2022.
