Dr Mahathir back in IJN for elective medical procedure

DR Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) again for an elective medical procedure, the hospital said in a statement.

“Due to current standard operating procedure, we are not allowing visitors,” it said in a brief statement.

Last month, the 96 year-old former prime minister and Langkawi MP was admitted to the same hospital for a “full medical check-up and further observation”.

Dr Mahathir has a history of heart ailment and chest infection.

In August 2016, he was admitted to IJN for treatment of a chest infection. He was also admitted for a chest infection in November 2013.

He had his first heart attack in 1989, at the age of 64.

Dr Mahathir had two more heart attacks in 2006, and a year later underwent a quadruple bypass at IJN. – January 7, 2022.
