TENGKU Adnan Tengku Mansor has denied saying that Christians are using churches to spread lies against the government and that his remarks have been misinterpreted.

The federal territories minister said he only advised churches to confine their activities to religion and to avoid spreading slander, which would stir discontent against the government.

“I only reminded all houses of worship to carry on with their religious activities and not to become places where fake news is spread, stirring up discontent against the government.

“Whatever news preached in houses of worship concerning current issues should be verified so as to not commit slander,” Tengku Adnan said in a statement.

He said he himself had fought for land for a church to be built in Kampung Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur, and only cited churches in reference to all houses of worship.

The minister’s remarks were made at a community event in conjunction with Federal Territories Day in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, this morning.

“You (can’t) read things on the internet or whatever comes to you, then talk about it in church.

“Because when you go around and give your sermons and preach on Sundays, there are a lot of things, sometimes, that are not true.

“Please use the church as a place to disseminate God’s will, not to disseminate your own will or (talk about) things that you are not happy with,” he had said.

Tengku Adnan’s statement has been condemned by church leaders, who said called it unfounded and offensive.

They said the statement called into question the church’s spiritual integrity to spread the faith, and also said preaching about societal issues is a religious duty. – February 3, 2018.

  • An absolutely thoughtless comment by a high profile minister in a climate where race and religion are highly charged subjects. What was he thinking.

  • Ku Nan, did you know that one of the first petitions in our corporate prayers at church service is for God to anoint our nation’s leaders and give them the wisdom that is needed to lead wisely?

In order to help you gain a better understanding of what is taught from the pulpit of our churches, I would like to as a Christian invite you to join me at church services for a month of Sundays. You can chose two churches and I will choose two. We could do this in a way that the churches are not forewarned of our attendance so as not to influence the message. Heck, I would be happy to drive you in my old banger and even buy you halal lunch for fellowship meal after the services. My fervent prayer would be that you come with an open mind and receive God’s word with an open heart in order that it’s truth brings light where there is darkness, understanding there is confusion.

IT IS THE HOME MINISTER WHO HAVE A RIGHT TO QUESTION.
