ALL police commissioners, and state and district police chiefs are ordered to increase patrols at popular hangout spots for New Year’s Eve tonight.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the patrols were to ensure the public complied with the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the national recovery plan and not gather in large crowds.

He said action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 can be taken against anyone who violates the SOP.

“We advise the public to always comply with the SOP, and everyone’s co-operation in this aspect is important as the virus still represents a serious health threat,” he said in a statement today. – Bernama, December 31, 2021.
