Covid-19 hospitalisations dip to 948

The number of Covid-19 hospital patients yesterday dipped slightly to 948, down from 971 on Tuesday, the CovidNow website shows. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, December 30, 2021.

A TOTAL of 948 patients were hospitalised for Covid-19 yesterday in Malaysia, a dip from 971 the day before, the CovidNow website showed.

The hospital utilisation rate stood at 63.3%, of which 28.3% was attributed to the coronavirus.

The number of hospital admissions indicates the severity of the virus. The hospital utilisation includes bed usage as well as the number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators

In the Klang Valley, Selangor reported 277 hospital admissions, followed by Kuala Lumpur (36) and Putrajaya (17).

Other states and federal territories that reported new admissions were Johor (211), Kedah (30), Kelantan (55), Malacca (16), Negri Sembilan (38), Pahang (47), Perak (28), Perlis (8), Penang (15), Sabah (85), Sarawak (49), Terengganu (34) and Labuan(2).

Kelantan saw the highest hospitalisation rate with 83.4% of hospital beds occupied

The utilisation rate for ventilators was at 36.4% and intensive care units, 54.4%.

There were 41,682 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, 288 of them in intensive care and 162 on ventilators.

Meanwhile, 34,781 patients were in home quarantine, 3,065 in low-risk quarantine centres, and 3,548 in hospital.

The Health Ministry reported 3,683 new infections yesterday.

Selangor logged 962. Other states that recorded new cases were Kelantan (499), Sabah (271), Johor (429), Kedah (236), Pahang (308), Penang (178), Sarawak (19), Perak (173), Kuala Lumpur (224), Sabah (192), Sarawak (23), Terengganu (193), Malacca (101), Negri Sembilan (118), Perlis (18), Putrajaya (22) and Labuan (7). –  December 30, 2021.
