Welfare Dept spends RM35 million to aid flood victims

THE Social Welfare Department has spent RM35 million to provide aid to flood victims in eight states.

Among the basic necessities provided are blankets, comforters, mats, towels and hygiene kits, said Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff.

“More than 30,000 collapsible tents have been used at flood relief centres. The department has also provided food at each centre according to the number of victims, including staff.”

The department has accommodated 114,280 people from 31,921 families at 771 flood relief centres nationwide, she added.

Siti Zailah said more than 3,000 officers have been mobilised to ensure the welfare of flood-affected folk.

The department has set up and coordinated “dapur rakyat” (people’s kitchen) in each affected area, and this has benefitted more than 16,000 victims, she added. – Bernama, December 29, 2021.
