Covid-19 hospitalisations rise to 971

HOSPITAL admissions from Covid-19 rose to 971 yesterday, after hovering in the 800 range for three days, according to data from the CovidNow website. 

A total of 804 people were hospitalised with the coronavirus on Monday. 

The overall hospital bed utilisation rate nationwide was at 65%, of which 27.9% were for Covid-19.

Hospital admission indicates the severity of the virus, while hospital utilisation includes bed usage, as well as the number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) and on ventilators. 

The Klang Valley had the highest daily admission at 287 with Selangor accounting for the bulk at 226, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 35 and Putrajaya with 26. 

Other states and federal territories that reported new admissions were Johor (214), Kedah (34), Kelantan (77), Malacca (22), Negri Sembilan (48), Pahang (24), Perak (33), Perlis (11), Penang (24), Sabah (85), Sarawak (84) and Terengganu (28). 

Labuan reported zero hospitalisations. 

In terms of hospital utilisation rate, Malacca was the highest with 83.3% of bed capacity at hospitals taken up. 

Meanwhile, the utilisation rate for ventilators was at 37% and ICU at 55.2%. 

As at midnight, there were 42,357 active Covid-19 cases in the country. Of this number, there were 302 active cases in the ICU, with 169 of them on ventilator support. 

Meanwhile, 35,247 patients were under home quarantine, 3,303 were admitted to low-risk quarantine centres and 3,505 hospitalised.

The Health Ministry reported 2,897 new infections yesterday. 

All states and federal territories reported under 1,000 infections. 

Selangor logged the highest number of infections at 675.

Other states that recorded new cases were Kelantan (295), Johor (297), Kedah (245), Pahang (215), Penang (183), Sarawak (19), Perak (117), Kuala Lumpur (205), Sabah (168), Terengganu (190), Malacca (144), Negri Sembilan (94), Perlis (22), Putrajaya (24) and Labuan (4). – December 29, 2021.
