THE Health Ministry reported 23 new Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours until midnight, bringing the toll of fatalities to 31,392. 

At the time of writing, all 23 deaths were classified as backlog cases. 

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported fatalities on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19. 

According to data from the ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository, four were classified as dead on arrival (DOA). 

This brings the total of DOA cases to 6,338 while the death toll among inpatients stood at 25,054. 

In terms of states, Johor and Terengganu reported the highest fatalities at four each. 

Other states that reported new deaths were Perak (3), Kelantan (2), Sabah (1), Kedah (1), Malacca (1), Negri Sembilan (1), Selangor (2), Pahang (2) and Kuala Lumpur (2). 

Sarawak, Perlis, Penang, Labuan and Putrajaya did not report a single death. 

The national average per population of one million were 11 deaths with Terengganu having the highest with 31 deaths per million people. – December 29, 2021.
