PAKATAN Harapan is more concerned about the safety and well-being of flood-affected folk than doing well in state elections in Johor, said coalition chairman Anwar Ibrahim.

“We are currently facing a flood crisis. The Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet. So why should we give more burden to the people?” he told reporters in Ampangan, Seremban, Negri Sembilan, today.

He was referring to Umno Supreme Council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah’s remarks that the opposition coalition is against holding state elections as it fears another defeat.

PH performed miserably in both the Malacca and Sarawak polls recently.

Anwar said: “I ask the consideration of Tuanku Sultan (of Johor) and the state government to think about the benefits, interests, life, health and safety of the people.”

“That is his (Shamsul Anuar) view and interpretation. The question is: is this the time for election? Win or lose, we leave it to the people. But it is the shared responsibility of… everyone to ease the burden borne by the people.”

Johor is ruled by Barisan Nasional, who is hanging on to the state government by a one-seat majority, following the death of Kempas assemblyman Osman Sapian on December 21.

Johor PH had in a statement yesterday said it opposes any power struggle and is committed to easing the burden of people affected by floods.

The statement is signed by Amanah’s Aminolhuda Hassan, DAP’s Liew Chin Tong and PKR’s Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh. – December 27, 2021.
