FORTY-EIGHT flights have been cancelled amid snowstorms in Japan today, according to NHK, as reported by Sputnik.

Local media reported that more than 100 flights were cancelled a day earlier, after 35 inches of snow fell in several prefectures by yesterday morning.

The heavy snowfall is expected to continue as the cold front is moving along the western part of the country.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled over the weekend worldwide, due to the spread of the new Omicron variant among airline workers.

FlightAware, which provides aviation data, said 2,513 flights were cancelled yesterday – 927 in the United States (US) alone.

More than 2,850 flights were cancelled worldwide on Saturday, of which almost 1,000 in the US, it added. – Bernama, December 27, 2021.
