Thunderstorms expected in more states

THE Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms in many areas in the south of the peninsula and Sarawak. 

Among the areas in Johor expected to be hit by downpour are Tangkak, Muar, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai and Kota Tinggi.

In Sarawak the affected areas are: Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Julau and Meradong), Sibu, Kapit (Song, Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh) and Miri (Marudi).

The warning lasts till 6pm.

As of this morning, a total of 210 locations in six states, namely Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang and Kedah, are still affected by floods following an overnight storm. 

The National Disaster Management Agency disaster operation control centre, in a statement today, said the locations are eight districts in Selangor, Negri Sembilan (3), Terengganu (2), Kelantan (3), Pahang (8) and Kedah (3). 

Eighty-three federal roads and 126 state roads are also affected by flash floods, landslides, collapse, sinkholes and damaged bridges.  

As of yesterday, more than 61,000 victims had been evacuated to relief centres, with Pahang and Selangor recording the highest number of evacuees. 

In Selangor alone 30,632 people have been displaced by the severe flooding. – December 22, 2021.
