DR Mahathir Mohamad will be discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) within the next few days, the heart specialist centre said this afternoon.
Doctors there are satisfied with the 96-year-old former prime minister’s progress following a series of health inspections.
“Dr Mahathir has completed all the necessary investigations for his medical check-up following admission to the IJN last Thursday.
“The team of doctors treating Dr Mahathir is satisfied with the outcome of a medical probe done over the last few days.
“He is ready to be discharged within the next few days,” IJN said in a statement.
Dr Mahathir, who has a history of heart ailments and chest infections, was admitted to IJN last week for a “full medical check-up and further observation”.
In August 2016, he was admitted to IJN for the treatment of a chest infection.
He was also admitted for a chest infection in November 2013.
He had his first heart attack in 1989, at the age of 64.
Dr Mahathir had two more heart attacks in 2006, and a year later underwent a quadruple bypass surgery at IJN. – December 21, 2021.
