THERE are three lawmakers who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19, the Health Ministry (MOH) said.

“As at December 13, only 219 (99.5%) of 220 members of Parliament have completed their Covid-19 vaccination while only 558 (99.7%) out of 560 assemblymen are fully vaccinated,” MOH said in a written reply to Parliament last week.

It said that this is despite the ministry giving priority to MPs and assemblymen during the first two phases of the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

“The MP and two assemblymen who have not completed their vaccination can walk in to any PPV or contact the district health clinics for their appointments,” MOH added.

The ministry, however, did not give any reasons as to why the three lawmakers were not fully vaccinated. It also did not reveal who the lawmakers were.

The ministry did not say whether the lawmakers, who are not fully vaccinated, are allowed to attend social functions, go to business premises or dine in at restaurants as the government prohibits those who are not fully inoculated to take part in such activities.

MOH was responding to Wong Shu Qi (Kluang-PH) who asked about the status of fully vaccinated MPs and state assemblymen in the country.

In July, Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said unvaccinated MPs were still allowed to attend Parliament sittings although everyone else had to be vaccinated.

“All MPs are allowed to come to Parliament even if they are not vaccinated, but we advise those who are not vaccinated to be careful, because we cannot stop them from performing their duties under the Federal Constitution,” said Azhar. – December 21, 2021.
