PLEASE don’t focus on Selangor only, Pahang flood victims say as they cry for help.

Social media users in the state took to Twitter to shed light on the situation in Pahang, which is also badly hit, as more attention is given to the situation in Selangor.

At the time of writing, several users have retweeted a common message, which read:

“Please don’t just focus on Selangor area! We’re at Karak, Bentong, Lanchang and Pahang area need help tooo!!! Dah dua hari stuck satu bantuan makanan pon takde. Rt untuk tolong mangsa banjir.”

This has been retweeted for more than 7,000 times.

@min_dy0 said victims in Bentong are in need of help.

“Just please don’t just focus area Selangor/Shah Alam only,we at Bentong Pahang have also experienced terrible floods and are in need of food and clothes. Help us here,” the tweet read.

@YM_Nik95 questioned why other states were not getting as much coverage as Selangor.

“Those in Pahang had to scramble for food due to shortage of supply,” he tweeted.

Ketari state assemblyman Young Syefura Othman told The Malaysian Insight that there was delay in aid due to lack of preparations for the floods.

“The floods in Ketari this time is the worst (on record). I have not received any allocations from either the state or federal government,” the Wanita DAP assistant secretary said when contacted today.

She said all expenses for Ketari folk were paid using public donations collected by her service centre.

However, she said all victims have been rescued and are now in the process of cleaning their homes.

Meanwhile, like Selangor, request for boats have also been pouring in from Pahang.

As of today, there were at 9,181 people from 7,738 families seeking shelter at 242 relief centres. – December 20, 2021.
