THE Health Ministry is bracing itself for more Covid-19 infections after detecting 181 new cases among flood victims at the evacuation centres, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

“Most of the cases are categories 1 and 2,” the minister said during a press conference in Parliament today.

He said the Covid-19 patients have been transferred to the hospitals. Of the 181 infections, Khairy said Selangor has the highest number at 117, followed by Pahang (52), Kelantan (6), Kuala Lumpur (4) with one each in Negri Sembilan and Malacca.

According to Khairy, another 206 flood victims are considered close contacts and have been moved to Covid-19 quarantine centres.

“MOH is expecting Covid-19 infections to rise as a result of the floods as it is hard to maintain all the SOP during a crisis situation.

“We understand that the priority is to save the flood victims first and as such it is unavoidable that some SOP cannot be followed i.e. face masks, social distancing, etc.,” the Rembau MP said.

He said that the ministry has informed all states to prepare for more infections due to the floods. – December 20, 2021.
