TAMAN Sri Muda residents in Shah Alam are running out of food with some having gone hungry for the past two days, even as the prime minister assured earlier that all those stranded at their homes by the floods will be rescued.

A number of victims are still waiting to be evacuated as they sent out SOS calls for rescue boats. Pleas for help have been pouring in on Facebook.

Some have posted on behalf of their ill and aged relatives on social media.

Their pleas for help come hours after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that people stranded have been rescued and relief centres no longer lacked food after yesterday’s complaints.

He also assured that the process to rescue those stranded in vehicles was underway.

The Malaysian Insight has reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office for clarification in relation to the evacuation of victims who are still trapped at their homes in Taman Sri Muda.

Rashmi Balakrishnan said a family of six was trapped with no food and electricity.

Ai Ling Kee said her friend’s family are trapped at home without food for the past two days.

Kee said her friend’s mother who needs medical attention due to high blood pressure and diabetes had no medication with her.

Sharunya Premenath said four of her family members, including an 84-year-old senior citizen, have been starving since yesterday.

“Please help my family. They are all stranded upstairs with no food, no electricity and no handphone coverage,” she said.

“Starving since yesterday… pls help… need food or water at least.”

Similarly, Shamla Papiyah said her 70-year-old mother-in-law, who is on medication, has not had food, medicine and electricity for two days.

Helpless victims in one of the worst-hit areas have been desperately waiting for boats to bring them to safety as water levels are rising as high as a single-storey house.

Many vehicles have been submerged. The area is only accessible by boats for now. – December 19, 2021.
