CLEANING-UP has started in some parts of Kuala Lumpur that were hit by floods.

Earlier today, The Malaysian Insight visited the River of Life, Masjid Jamek and Dataran Merdeka areas that were inundated since last night due to Sungai Gombak overflowing its banks.

While the water has receded, these areas were filled with mud and debris.

Since this morning, Kuala Lumpur City Hall was seen deploying its cleaning teams in the affected areas.

Cleaning work was carried out at the iconic Masjid Jamek, the River of Life and the stretch along Dataran Merdeka.

Jalan Raja, which links these areas, has been cordoned off.

The Masjid Jamek LRT station, which was closed yesterday following the floods, has, however, reopened.

Yesterday, the Klang Valley saw its most devastating flood in history following a persistent downpour for two days.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said today that five roads, namely Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Jalan Rahmat, Jalan Sentul Manis, Jalan Pahang Barat and the SMART Tunnel were still closed at 1pm.

He said cleaning work is being carried out and commuters are advised to use Jalan Tun Razak to head to the city centre. – December 19, 2021.
