Putrajaya, KL mosques to shelter flood victims

PUTRAJAYA and Kuala Lumpur mosques, including the Federal Territory Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, have been turned into temporary accommodation for flood victims.

Religious Affairs Minister Idris Ahmad said he has instructed the Malaysian Islamic Development Department and Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to coordinate the matter.

“Mosques are ready and will provide appropriate assistance (to flood victims). The mosques will manage food assistance via the Dapur It’am and Jawi food bank programmes,” he said in a statement today.

The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council will also provide necessary assistance to victims.

The Klang Valley has been hit by floods, which have forced 15,000 people to be evacuated to more than 100 flood relief centres as of 2pm today, and scores of motorists to be stranded due to inundated roads.

Apart from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, other flood-affected states are Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Malacca and Negri Sembilan. – Bernama, December 19, 2021.
