NAJIB Razak’s legal team in his SRC International Sdn Bhd trial has alleged that not all evidence related to the case was disclosed to the defence.

Lead defence counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said they are in the midst of obtaining certain documents and will submit a request to the Federal Court for them to be adduced as new evidence in Najib’s appeal.

“We have learnt that there is more evidence, which has been suppressed (from Najib’s defence team), which we were not informed of either by the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) or the police.

“We will put in another application to adduce as new evidence,” Shafee said, without disclosing what the new evidence was.

The team, he said, will verify the evidence first before revealing it to any party.

“We cannot reveal now because we need to confirm it first. Otherwise, it would be just empty talk.”

Najib was found guilty of seven charges of money laundering, criminal breach of trust and abuse of power by Kuala Lumpur High Court in July last year. He was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million.

He also failed to overturn his conviction and the sentence linked to the RM42 million of SRC funds at the Court of Appeal on December 8.

The former prime minister will now take his appeal to the Federal Court.

Shafee said they are hoping to compile the materials and submit them as new evidence within two months.

“Sometimes, when we want to look for documents, in a situation where authorities are actively trying to hide them from us, it would be hard for us to find,” he said.

“But God willing, we will get them.”

Besides SRC, Najib is also facing criminal trials linked to losses from the main 1MDB fund and for allegedly tampering with an audit report. – December 17, 2021.
