THE Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) is working with the police to place M. Indira Gandhi’s ex-husband on Interpol’s red notice list, lawyer Rajesh Nagaraj said today.

Representing Indira, he told reporters that his client had asked the Ipoh High Court today to order the AGC to direct the police to put Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, formerly known as K. Pathmanathan, on the list.

“The AGC has said that it will discuss with the police on how to go about this,” Rajesh said in a press conference broadcast on Facebook after case management today.

“Right now, if you go to the Interpol website, which I did yesterday, there is no red notice for Pathmanathan. There is only a yellow notice for daughter Prasana Diksa.”

Indira, a former kindergarten teacher, is taking legal action to have the High Court’s order for Prasana to be returned to her.

Mother and daughter have not met since Riduan took the child away as a baby after unilaterally converting her and two older siblings to Islam 12 years ago.

“Why is there no red notice until today? It’s baffling!” Rajesh said.

Indira has also filed an application for contempt of court against the inspector-general of police (IGP) and the Perak police chief because of their failure to act on the recovery order. 

“This recovery order states that the police must recover Prasana. Prasana has been missing since 2009,” Rajesh said.

“On May 30, 2014, the Ipoh High Court ordered that Prasana be recovered and the police to file an affidavit every month with a copy of the investigation diary. 

“The police have failed, neglected and refused to do so. There are about 90 affidavits that have not been filed by the police to date.”

Indira was present today, together with Indira Gandhi Action Team chairman Arun Dorasamy.

The court has fixed February 22 for the judicial monitoring of the recovery order and February 25 for the case management of Indira’s contempt of court application.

Indira was granted custody of Prasana in 2010, whose unilateral conversion to Islam by Riduan has been nullified by the court.

Riduan is now a fugitive for violating the Ipoh High Court’s order in 2014 to return Prasana, leading to a mandamus order by the court compelling the IGP to arrest him.

The quashing of the unilateral conversions of Indira’s children – Prasana and two older siblings – went all the way to the Federal Court. 

The apex court in January 2018 upheld the nullification of the religious conversions by only one parent and affirmed custody to the mother. – December 14, 2021.
