MALAYSIA reported 957 Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday, a reduction from 1,078 the day before, the Health Ministry said. 

According to the CovidNow website, bed utilisation dropped to 65.1% while the coronavirus take-up rate stood at 35.2%. 

The hospital admission rate indicates the severity of the coronavirus outbreak. Hospital utilisation rate includes bed usage as well as the number of patients in intensive care and requiring ventilatory support.

The Klang Valley region of Selangor (241), Kuala Lumpur (33) and Putrajaya (21) reported a combined 295 admissions, decreasing from 305 one day before. 

Coronavirus patients took up 60.7% of hospital beds in the Klang Valley.

Other states that reported new admissions were Johor (139), Sabah (107), Kelantan (78), Negri Sembilan (59), Perak (59), Terengganu (50), Sarawak (40), Pahang (39), Penang (31), Kedah (28), Malacca (17), Perlis (14) and Labuan (1).

Kelantan had the highest bed utilisation for Covid-19 with 79.0% of beds filled. 

Malaysia yesterday reported 4,626 new infections, the lowest since December 6, when 4,262 cases were logged. 

The Klang Valley accounted for 1,605 infections, or 35% of the cases. 

Selangor reported 1,227 cases, Kuala Lumpur (349) and Putrajaya (29). 

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Johor (480), Kelantan (386), Penang (345), Pahang (326), Kedah (308), Sabah (287), Perak (207), Malacca (202), Terengganu (180), Negri Sembilan (161), Sarwak (74), Perlis (39) and Labuan (26). 

Ventilators utilisation were at 38.4% while intensive care units (ICUs) occupancy stood at 59.7%, of which 36.3% were coronavirus cases. 

Active cases dropped slightly to 60,778. 

Among these, 49,910 patients were in home quarantine, 5,867 in low-risk quarantine centres, and 4,605 in hospital.

There were 396 cases in intensive care, 211 of them on ventilators. – December 12, 2021.
