PERBADANAN Pembangunan Kampung Baru (PKB) has denied claims that owners of land and PKNS flat units in Sungai Baru, Kampung Baru, need to vacate their homes within 42 days.

Instead, it said the period is for residents to submit their objection for the date set for the land acquisition enquiry.

These individuals have gone through a consultation process with the developer since 2016, whereby the first owner had signed an agreement on August 8, 2016, to consider and study the offer of redevelopment on a joint-venture basis with the developer.

PKB said the developer is still consulting some PKNS flat unit owners in the area to seek a solution regarding compensation to ensure a fair redevelopment process.

“The land acquisition involves a legal process. The probe process to finalise the amount of compensation to be paid for the terrace lots has yet to be carried out by the Director-General of Lands and Mines Department.

“A sufficient amount should be paid to the owners based on the property market value.”

Low compensation claims and residents’ call for the government to intervene in the issues of compensation and having to vacate their homes soon have gone viral.

The developer had been invited by the Persatuan Pemilik Hartanah Kampung Sungai Baru to submit a development proposal for the Sungai Baru area in 2016.

The redevelopment project will involve 328 units, comprising 64 terrace lots and 264 flat units. – Bernama, December 8, 2021.
