JOHOR has proposed for four products to be included as controlled items, as the federal government continues to control the rising prices of essential items in the market.

The four products are fertiliser, maize, soya bean and pesticide.

Johor Unity, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Chong Fat Full said the proposal is made following a meeting with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry yesterday.

The price hikes are also influenced by the prices of the four products, he added.

“It is like foreign exchange rates, we cannot control (that), but we can control the items that enter our country, such as fertilisers.”

Chong said the current enforcement and monitoring of the chain is not perfect due to external factors.

He said the state government will submit the proposal to the ministry as soon as possible as it also covers the jurisdictions of other ministries such as the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry. – Bernama, December 8, 2021.
