1,036 people hospitalised with Covid-19

A TOTAL of 1,036 people were hospitalised with Covid-19 yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

Yesterday’s figure is an increase from the previous day when 950 admissions were reported.

Overall hospital bed utilisation nationwide was at 67.6%, of which 39.2% were Covid-19 patients.

Hospital admission indicates the severity of the virus, while hospital utilisation includes bed usage, as well as the number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) and on ventilators.

The Klang Valley logged the highest daily admission at 289, with 240 in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (29) and Putrajaya (20).

Other states that reported new admissions were Johor (197), Kedah (33), Kelantan (100), Malacca (14), Negri Sembilan (62), Pahang (35), Perak (57), Perlis (13), Penang (24), Sabah (89), Sarawak (54), Terengganu (68) and Labuan (1).

Terengganu reported the highest utilisation with 85.6% of bed space taken. Meanwhile, the utilisation for ventilators was 47.2% and intensive care units (ICUs) was 60.7%.

As of midnight, there were 60,411 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia. Of this number, there were 437 cases in ICUs with 240 of them on ventilators.

Meanwhile, 49,279 patients were in home quarantine, 5,875 admitted to low-risk quarantine centres and 4,820 hospitalised.

As of noon yesterday, 4,965 new infections were reported.

Selangor logged the highest number with 1,196 cases.

Other states and territories that recorded new cases were Johor (438), Kedah (365), Kelantan (573), Malacca (181), Negri Sembilan (212), Pahang (363), Perak (170), Perlis (46), Penang (388), Sabah (307), Sarawak (71), Terengganu (219), Kuala Lumpur (380), Labuan (23) and Putrajaya (33). – December 8, 2021.
