AMANAH will call for a review of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration if kleptocrats return to power, Khalid Samad said.
The Shah Alam MP said that the party’s candidates won in 2018 because Malaysians rejected kleptocracy.
He added that his party would not hesitate to reject the MOU if the kleptocrats are seen to influence the government.
“Amanah will recommend for Pakatan Harapan (PH) to review the MOU,” said the party communications director during a press conference in Parliament today.
The kleptocrats term is widely used by the opposition to refer to former prime minister Najib Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor, former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and several other former ministers charged with corruption.
Of the group, only Najib has been found guilty last year while Zahid will know if he has to enter defence on January 18.
The return of the kleptocrats was made possible after Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN) and Mohamed Azmin Ali (Gombak-PN) initiated the “Sheraton move” that toppled the PH government, said Khalid.
When asked, Khalid said that the MOU was not permanent in nature.
“We must review the agreement if the government cannot be transparent and honest,” said Khalid.
Prime Minister Ismail will mark his first 100 days in office on Thursday.
Despite the difficult circumstances, after Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister in August, Ismail has managed to buy himself some time by signing a “confidence and supply” agreement with PH.
PH, however, has come under some public pressure lately following some questionable decisions by Ismail’s administration. – December 6, 2021.
