36 new Covid deaths, all backlogs

THE Health Ministry reported 36 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday, taking the death in Malaysia to 30,574.

The GitHub raw data repository showed all fatalities were backlog cases.

Eight of the cases were classified dead on arrival (DOA), taking the toll in this category to 6,189.

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported fatalities on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19.

Sabah reported nine deaths yesterday, the most among the states and territories.

Other states reporting deaths were Penang (6), Johor and Kelantan (4 each), Negri Sembilan, Perak and Terengganu (3 each), Pahang (2), and Perlis and Selangor (1 each).

There were no coronavirus-linked deaths in Kedah, Malacca, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.

Of the eight DOA cases, seven occurred in Sabah and one in Perak.

Over a two-week period, the Klang Valley region of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya reported 91 deaths, increasing the toll in the region by 59%.

The local virus fatality rate stood at 0.8% while the national average for coronavirus deaths was 14 per population of a million. – December 5, 2021.
