THE Mount Semeru volcano in East Java’s Lumajang District erupted at 3.20pm today.
The 3,676m-high volcano produced rain and floods around Kampung Sumberwuluh, causing the residents to run for safety.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation reported ash plume covering a distance of 500 to 800m from the centre of the eruption.
According to spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, Abdul Muhari, residents have been urged not to conduct activities along the district’s rivers.
