Anwar complains about unwinnable ‘category F’ seats in Sarawak

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has complained that his party has been given seats, which will be difficult to win in the upcoming Sarawak state polls on December 18.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said the party had been given what he termed as “category F” constituencies by its partners in the state.

“We are fighting for seats we can win – or category ‘A’ – but we are given seats that are category ‘F’.

“Some we have to take because we have a base there, unlike the other parties, but it doesn’t mean you need to contest all these seats.

“That’s why we reduced the number from 45 to about 29,” he told reporters after an event in his Port Dickson constituency today.

The party had been allocated 47 seats to contest in the polls but later demanded an increased share, some of which its DAP ally refused to give up.

Subsequently, Anwar said the party will contest fewer seats and yesterday PKR announced it will contest in 28 seats.

In the 2018 general election, PKR won three seats but, following the collapse of the PH federal government all three of its assemblymen left the party.

Two joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu, while another joined Bersatu.

Anwar said the more winnable seats were taken, leaving the party with little choice but to contest for seats it stood little chance of securing.

He said the party had agreed to contest them rather than allow the incumbent Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to take them unopposed.

“So, we are burdened with this and people perceive PKR as greedy,” he said. – December 4, 2021.
