1,159 hospitalised with Covid yesterday

THE number of hospital admissions from Covid-19 rose to 1,159 yesterday from 1,118 a day earlier, the Health Ministry said. 

Overall, hospitals are running at 69.5% capacity, with Covid-19 patients taking up 37.3% of current bed space, the CovidNow website showed.

Hospital admission indicates the severity of the virus, while hospital utilisation includes bed usage, as well as the number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) and on ventilators.  

There were 332 Covid-19 admissions in Klang Valley yesterday, with Selangor reporting 271, Kuala Lumpur (39) and Putrajaya (22).

Other states and territories that reported new admissions are Johor (192), Kelantan (120), Sabah (105), Sarawak (86), Terengganu (74), Perak (52), Pahang (45), Negri Sembilan (41), Kedah (40), Penang (29), Malacca (28) and Perlis (15). 

Labuan again reported zero hospital admissions. 

In terms of overall hospital utilisation including non-Covid-19 cases, Malacca was the highest with 86.4% bed capacity at hospitals taken up. 

Meanwhile, Kedah recorded the highest overall utilisation rate for ventilators at 54.8%.

Selangor reported the highest overall ICU utilisation rate at 80.9%. 

There were 62,253 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia as of last night. Of this number, 511 patients were treated in ICUs, with 266 of them on ventilator support. 

Meanwhile, 50,358 patients were in home quarantine, 6,346 admitted to low-risk quarantine centres, and 5,038 hospitalised. 

As of noon yesterday, 5,806 new infections were reported. Selangor logged the highest number of infections with 1,726. 

Other states that recorded new cases are Kelantan (640), Johor (635), Sabah (427), Kuala Lumpur (385), Pahang (354), Kedah (332), Penang (262), Malacca (249), Perak (228), Terengganu (191), Negri Sembilan (181), Sarawak (91), Putrajaya (53), Perlis (47) and Labuan (5). – December 3, 2021.
