PKR is hoping that ally DAP will continue negotiations on three disputed seats in the Sarawak elections before tomorrow morning, when the former will unveil its candidates.

Sarawak PKR acting chairman Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh said: “We still have time to sit over coffee and discuss.”

He will contest in the Malay-majority seat of Beting Maro.

Abang Zulkifli added that if the talks prove futile, the party will draw up a “last minute decision” plan for the seats of Kemena in Bintulu, and Senadin and Piasau in Miri.

He said this at a press conference in Kuching this afternoon.

Last Saturday, Abang Zulkifli told The Malaysian Insight that PKR will field candidates in all disputed seats, similar to what the two Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties did over six seats in the elections in 2016.

Neither PKR nor DAP won a single seat they contested.

PKR is claiming the Senadin and Piasau seats based on statistical studies done on the performance of its Miri MP Michael Teo in the 14th general election, said Abang Zulkifli.

Senadin, Piasau and Pujut are the three state seats in the Miri parliamentary constituency, he said, adding that the studies showed PKR, not DAP, is in a better position to win there.

He said PKR “loaned” the Kemena seat to DAP in past polls and wants it back.

DAP was allocated the disputed seats, following seat allocation discussions in January. The party lost in all seats, except for Pujut, in past polls. However, the court disqualified Pujut assemblyman Ting Tiong Choon for having a dual Malaysian-Australian citizenship.

DAP is fielding its central executive member John Bryan Anthony in Kemena, Peter Hee Leh Keng in Piasau and Marcus Hugo in Senadin.

PKR leaders have accused DAP and state PH chairman Chong Chien Jen of not respecting the decision to refer the dispute to the PH presidential council for deliberation, following a state coalition council meeting.
