A SUBSIDY of RM200 per person is available for Sarawak youth returning to their state to vote in the December 18 elections, a civil society group said.

Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) Youth said the balance of funds from the UndiRabu project in 2018 has been topped up to make the flight ticket subsidy available to a limited number of youth, on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Each (successful) applicant will given a RM200 subsidy.

“KLSCAH Youth urges Sarawak folk in the peninsular to ‘balik kampung’ to cast their votes and make an impact for our country.

“By grasping this opportunity, we hope to encourage eligible voters to exercise their citizen’s rights, especially the Sarawak youth,” the group said in a statement today.

The UndiRabu project was a civil society initiative to help people facing financial difficulties return to their constituencies to vote in the 14th general election in 2018. Donations were collected from the public and disbursed to applicants who needed funds for bus and flight tickets.

KLSCAH Youth said the balance of UndiRabu funds of RM17,983.75 had now been topped up to RM 20,000 to be used as “air ticket subsidy for Sarawak voters”.

It said applicants for the subsidised flight tickets must meet the following conditions:

1. Be eligible voters, and

2. Be college or undergraduate students.

Applicants must submit a softcopy of their MyKad, student ID, bank details and proof of a return-trip flight booking to this link.

“The subsidy is given out on first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability. The list of 100 applicants will be announced on our Facebook page,” KLSCAH Youth said.

It said further inquiries should be directed to [email protected].

There have been complaints that the price of flight tickets from the peninsula to Sarawak are currently expensive for dates before and after the December 18 state elections, with prices comparable to tickets from Kuala Lumpur to London or Dubai. – December 1, 2021.
