THE question of whether the government intends to rebrand Sabah and Sarawak as mainland Malaysia, given that its area covers more than 198,000sqkm, or 60% of the nation’s land mass, is expected to be discussed during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Order Paper, the matter will be raised by Wilfred Madius Tangau (Tuaran-PH) to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the former further pointing out that Peninsular Malaysia only totalled 132,000sqkm or 40% of Malaysia’s territory.

There will also be a question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (Pasir Mas-PN) to Minister of Environment and Water Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man on the progress of the flood mitigation project along Sungai Golok, on the international border between Malaysia and Thailand.

Rohani Abdul Karim (Batang Lupar-GPS) is also due to ask whether the data on poverty collected by the Department of Statistics Malaysia reflects reality.

After the question and answer session, the house will continue with the debate on the supply bill 2022 at the committee level for the Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; and the Rural Development Ministry.

The current Dewan Rakyat will sit until December 16. – Bernama, December 1, 2021.
