SEAT negotiations have yet to begin between Parti Warisan Sabah and the state Pakatan Harapan, despite an offical invitation having been sent out last week.

The state PH had been given until today at the latest to complete seat negotations.

State PH chairman Christina Liew told The Malaysian Insight that there was no progress on the matter, and that she would not come to any conclusions regarding the silence on the part of Warisan.

“I believe no party has started a meeting with Warisan, or any other local opposition party, for that matter.”

She said she would give an update when developments took place.

On January 25, an official invitation was extended to Warisan by the state’s opposition coalition to initiate seat talks, with Liew saying component parties PKR, DAP and Amanah would hold discussions with Warisan separately.

National PH election director Muhyiddin Yassin, during a visit to Sabah, had said talks should be completed by today at the latest, adding that he fully trusted the pact to settle negotations with Warisan amicably.

Warisan has yet to get in touch with the state PH, with the exception being the party’s deputy president, Darell Leiking, who wants PH to keep the discussions “behind closed doors”.

There are 60 state and 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah, and the state PH had completed the distribution of seats among its component parties on December 9 last year.

State DAP chairman Stephen Wong confirmed that no meeting had been held following Muhyiddin’s visit.

He said the latest “conversation” with Warisan had been through the media, when the state PH offered the party 60% of state seats, in return for 60% of parliamentary seats.

Leiking, when contacted, said matters related to seat discussions came under the president’s purview.

Warisan has made it clear that it will not team up with the state PH, but is supportive of the opposition’s efforts to take over Putrajaya.

Party president Mohd Shafie Apdal had, in his speeches, spoken well of PH’s chairman and prime minister designate, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, despite Sabah folk still blaming the former prime minister for the state’s illegal immigrants problem and other issues.

Shafie had said he believed Dr Mahathir was the only “leader capable of getting Malaysia out of its current debt crisis”. – January 31, 2018.
