AFTER nearly three weeks in the hospital, a 54-year-old Parliament officer died of Covid-19 yesterday, health authorities said today.

Dr Param Jeeth Singh, the health director for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, said in a statement that the individual had been completely vaccinated since July 11 and had no chronic conditions.

Param said the officer had only travelled between work and home in the two weeks before exhibiting symptoms and had not met any MPs or senators.

After suffering from a cough and fever since November 3, Param said the officer tested positive on November 8. He was then told to go to a Covid-19 assessment centre (CAC) for clinical examination.

On November 9, he told health personnel at the CAC he was having trouble breathing.

He was then given a category 4 classification and admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

“He was also not present for work since he started exhibiting symptoms and was last at his office on November 3,” said Param.

“Four close contacts – two from his home and the other two from his workplace – had been identified and all four have been quarantined. An investigation is ongoing to identify the source of the infection,” he added.

A total of 30,309 people have died of Covid-19 in the country since the pandemic began. – November 29, 2021.
