A TOTAL of 3.78 million vehicles have yet to renew their motor vehicle licences, better known as road tax, nationwide as at November 16, according to the Road Transport Department (RTD).

Its deputy director-general (planning and operations) Aedy Fadly Ramli said vehicle owners have until year-end to renew their road tax.

Do not wait until the last minute to renew road tax as this can cause congestion at RTD counters, which are open daily until December 31, he added.

“The people can go to any RTD branch. The opening hours are listed on the RTD portal,” he said, adding that road tax renewal can also be done online.

Aedy Fadly said those with expired motor vehicle licences will face legal action after December 31.

“They still have a chance to renew their road tax, but there will be no more extension or warning after December 31.”

In September, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said the grace period for road tax renewal has been extended to December 31, but the vehicles must have valid insurance policies. – Bernama, November 27, 2021.
