FORMER tourism, arts and culture minister Mohamaddin Ketapi, who quit Sabah-based Warisan last month, signed up with Bersatu today.

Party secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin said the decision to accept the Lahad Datu MP and Segama assemblyman was made at a special supreme council meeting today.

“The special Bersatu supreme council meeting recommended and accepted Mohammadin Ketapi’s application as a new member of Bersatu.

“Bersatu welcomes his membership because not only does it further strengthen the position of the Sabah government led by the Chief Minister Hajiji Md Noor, but it will also provide great benefits to the development as well as welfare of the people he represents,” Hamzah said in a statement today, after attending a lengthy meeting at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club.

Last month, Mohamaddin quit Warisan and became an independent supporting the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government.

Meanwhile, on the upcoming Sarawak elections, Hamzah said Bersatu will hold further discussions with component parties in Perikatan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak to determine the strategy and preparation for the state polls, as well as the next general election.

Yesterday, the Election Commission (EC) announced that Sarawak will go to the polls for its 12th state elections on December 18.

The EC fixed December 6 for nomination, giving parties a period of 12 days to campaign.

Besides this, Hamzah said Bersatu will hold its fifth annual general assembly on December 18 and 19 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

“(It) will be attended by 1,600 delegates from all over the country physically,” he said.

Hamzah said the division meetings will be held from tomorrow to Sunday. – November 25, 2021.
