THERE was a total of 30,290 unsold houses worth RM19.7 billion in the third quarter of this year, said Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Ismail Muttalib in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“This is an improvement compared to the second quarter, where there were 31,112 unsold units worth RM21 billion,” he said.

The National Property Information Centre reported a drop of 2.6% and 1.7% in the number of unsold units and property value respectively, between the second and the third quarters of 2021, according to Ismail.

“This is due to the developers giving discounts to clear their stock,” he said in response to a question by Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang-BN).

Ismail added that Penang had 4,638 unsold units, followed by Kuala Lumpur (3,893), Selangor (3,390) and Perak (2,895).

In contrast, Kelantan 114 unsold homes, the lowest by state, territory or region.

However, the deputy minister did not provide any data on the value or the number of unsold units elsewhere around the country.

There were 18,229 condominiums and apartments unsold in the third quarter, followed by terraced houses (5,687) and semi-detached houses (1,783). – November 23, 2021.
