MALAYSIA reported 1,187 Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday, according to the CovidNow website, a decrease from the 1,236 a day earlier.

Overall hospital utilisation rate stands at 67.3%, of which 39.8% are Covid-19 cases.

Hospital admission indicates the severity of the virus, while hospital utilisation includes bed usage, as well as the number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) and on ventilators.

The Klang Valley reported the highest number of admissions with 315.

Other states that reported new admissions are Selangor with 254, Johor (168), Sabah (123), Sarawak (121), Kelantan (110), Perak (70), Terengganu (70), Penang (56), Pahang (48), Negri Sembilan (40), Kuala Lumpur (38), Kedah (29), Malacca (26), Putrajaya (19), Perlis (13) and Labuan (2).

In terms of hospital utilisation rate, Terengganu has the highest with 84.6%.

The utilisation rate for ICU is 65.2% and ventilators is 38.8%.

The country reported 5,859 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total number of active cases to 69,485, of which 55,346 are under home quarantine, 8,004 in quarantine centres and 5,606 hospitalised.

Selangor claimed the highest number of fresh infections with 1,528.

Other states that recorded infections are Kelantan (614), Sabah (545), Johor (499), Penang (367), Kedah (364), Pahang (362), Kuala Lumpur (319), Sarawak (255), Perak (237), Terengganu (225), Negri Sembilan (223), Malacca (192), Putrajaya (91), Perlis (19) and Labuan (19).

A total of 529 patients are in ICU, of which 261 are on ventilators. – November 21, 2021.
