PAKATAN HARAPAN met the European Union ambassadors recently to explain what was happening in the country, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said the EU ambassadors had a right to hear their side of the story as the mainstream media does not publicise the government’s wrongdoings.

You can only get good information about the government from the press and all of the mainstream media is controlled by the government

Even the Umno general assembly are not allowed to discuss what is wrong, leaving the EU ambassadors in the dark.

They have a right to know how the government is messing with the electoral rolls and the actions taken by the income tax department against certain people,” said the PH chairman.

He said PH took the opportunity to explain this to the ambassadors and also asked them about EU’s actions against palm oil.

“We wanted to know why EU is doing this so we can formulate our stand later,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also asked EU to send observers to GE14 but the ambassadors said they can only do so on the request of the Malaysian government.

“But this government will not do this and we expressed our disappointment to them,” he said.

He then rebutted Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein who slammed the former prime minister for meeting foreign ambassadors.

“The opposition has always met foreign ambassadors and there is nothing wrong with that. I was only against some groups who were being offered money to promote certain ideologies,” said Dr Mahathir.

He also confirmed he had met Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah at a wedding party last week.

But the 92-year-old brushed off any suggestions of cooperating with the Gua Musang MP in GE14.

“Ku Li told me he has retired and does not want to be in politics any more. I met him during a wedding and he was seated next to me and we didn’t discuss politics because he has retired.” – January 30, 2018.
